5 Reasons to Purchase Property in Phoenix, AZ

Phoenix, Arizona is one of the hottest cities in America. While the temperatures are very warm especially in the middle of summer, Phoenix is also a very hot destination to move to. Nicknamed the “Valley of the Sun,” the city is located in south central Arizona and is home to nearly 1.6 million residents. There are many reasons that residents are drawn to the area, but for many, it IS actually the weather that tops the list.

Climate

One of the top reasons to purchase a home in the Phoenix area is the climate of the region. Phoenix is notorious for its year round warmth and sunshine. This allows for plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors, whether that means relaxing by the pool or heading out to one of the area’s many trail-heads for a hike. Though the city is known for its summertime heat, which regularly gets into triple digits, residents are treated to mild temperatures for nearly 9 months of the year. With an average of nearly 300 days of sunshine and less than ten inches of rain per year, Phoenix is a great place for anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors.

Things to Do

Though purchasing a home can be considered “settling down” in many aspects, that is not necessarily the case in Phoenix. Purchasing a home here can help with setting roots in a community, but the city offers residents such a huge variety of activities, it is very difficult to remain “settled.”

Outdoors

Though Phoenix may not be known as an “outdoorsy” city, it does offer residents a ton outdoor recreation opportunities, such as hiking, biking and even stand up paddle boarding. Papago Park and Phoenix Mountain Park each offer hiking, great views of the surrounding area, and are each just minutes from downtown. Cooling off during the heat of the summer is easy too. In just an hour drive from downtown, residents can go stand up paddle-boarding, hiking or mountain biking in the Tonto National Forest near Payson.  Getting outside and enjoying the outdoors is incredibly easy while living in Phoenix.

Phoenix also offers those interested in other recreational sports a multitude of options. The city and surrounding area is home to nearly 200 golf courses, nearly 200 public parks and 32 public recreation and community centers.

Music

Phoenix has a very underrated music scene. With a ton of venues, there is an option for everyone. Alternative, indie, hip hop and rock fans alike should plan on spending lots of weekends at the Van Buren, which features huge variety of artists. The Marquee Theater, located near downtown Tempe is another popular venue for music of all types. The city is also full of smaller music venues, offering food, beer, as well as local bands and entertainers. Buying a home here allows plenty of time to explore the city and find your own favorites.

Housing Prices and Cost of Living

For a city with as many perks as Phoenix, home prices are surprisingly affordable. The median sale price of homes in the city is just over $230,000, which is only slightly higher than the nationwide average of $229,000. For many prospective homeowners, a mortgage payment on a home in the area is actually less than the cost of rent so it is especially advantageous to purchase a home if Phoenix is somewhere you would like to call home for an extended period of time.

Phoenix was recently named as one of the most affordable major cities in the US. In comparison to the rest of the United States, costs for things like groceries, transportation and healthcare are about 3% lower in Phoenix. The warm and pleasant climate of the region also keeps costs down. Typically, it is cheaper to keep a house cool than it is to keep it warm. For Phoenicians, the use of a heater within the home is a rare occasion to say the least.

Jobs

The city has a very strong job market, which is an excellent draw for anyone who is looking to relocate to the area. With a rapidly growing tech industry in the city, many well established companies and organizations, Phoenix offers employees in a variety of industries stable employment. The average salary in Phoenix is slightly higher than the national average and combined with the lower cost of living, allows for residents to live at a higher standard than many other Americans. This is especially important in a city like Phoenix, which has lots of different activities for residents to enjoy.

Location is Everything!

Though the city of Phoenix has plenty of things to do and places to explore, it also offers residents plenty of ways to get out and explore other places, both near and far. It is incredibly easy to pack up your SUV, hit the interstate and head out of town. Interstate 17 will take you north towards Flagstaff, where you can ski, hike, and explore the mountains in the area. If the beach is more your style, then hit Interstate 10 heading west to Los Angeles. In just under six hours, you can go from your front door to Pacific Ocean. Grand Canyon National Park, Lake Powell and Lake Mead are all very easy weekend trips too. Whether its a quick weekend getaway or an extended regional road trip, Phoenix is a great city to base out of.
