Arizona’s sixth-largest city, is located in the eastern part of Maricopa County, Arizona, adjacent to the Greater Phoenix Area. It got it’s name in 1894 after founder Winfield Scott and incorporated in 1951 with a population of 2000. The 2015 population of the city is estimated to be 236,839 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The New York Times described downtown Scottsdale as “a desert version of Miami’s South Beach” and as having “plenty of late night partying and a buzzing hotel scene.” Its slogan is “The West’s Most Western Town”. Renowned for its high quality of living, meticulously manicured championship golf courses, and luxurious resorts, the city continues to draw new residents – whether full-time or part-time – year after year. Currently home to more than 200,000 full-time residents, this city is more than just a recreational paradise; it is home to some of the country’s best urban living and a dynamic arts scene. Right now, the supply of homes is slowly shrinking. Over 6 percent fewer homes available in the last year. Naturally, the prices have been increasing in pace with the diminishing supply. A two-bedroom home will run about $375,000 on average, with similarly sized condos in Scottsdale running a little less, depending on the area. This is 87 percent higher than the national average.

The Neighbors

With the cost of living in Scottsdale, AZ, being 26 percent higher than other Arizona cities, and 22 percent higher than the national average, it’s definitely oriented towards the well-to-do. The northern section of Scottsdale houses many affluent individuals, and with facilities like Scottsdale Airpark (small private craft) and WestWorld (equestrian center and special events venue), it shows it. Bordered by Phoenix to the west and the McDowell Mountains to the east, Scottsdale is praised for its ideal location and beautiful natural surroundings. In fact, this is the home to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, the largest urban wilderness area in the United States. Schools, Health and Transportation

Due to its size and population, there are more than thirty public schools.  Scottsdale Unified School District is known for their high quality and for offering programs that are not found in other school districts, schools are a major draw for families. A number of private and charter schools also serve the area.

Hospitals include: the HonorHealth Osborn & Shea Medical Centers and the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, one of three U.S. locations.  There is also an abundance of specialists throughout the community.

Because of Scottsdale’s ideal location, State Route 101 allows residents easy access to the Phoenix Metro Area and surrounding communities. Parks and Recreation

Along with the popular McDowell Sonoran Preserve, it is filled with an abundance of parks.  Scottsdale Sports Complex, calls this home and offers professionally groomed fields for soccer, lacrosse, football, and rugby. Residents will also find excellent venues for skating, fishing, baseball, swimming, and jogging throughout the city. There are even specialty parks, such as the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, that offers Scottsdale’s youngest residents the opportunity to enjoy a carousel, train rides, a playground, and a museum.

Scottsdale is a year-round golfers paradise and is often praised for being the world’s finest golf destination. With more than 200 golf courses in the area and 330 plus days of sunshine, annually, it is easy to see why! Camelback Golf Club, Gainey Ranch Golf Club, Grayhawk Golf Club, The Phoenician Golf Club, TPC Scottsdale, and Troon North Golf Club are just a few of the area’s championship courses.

Shopping and Dining

Many consider Scottsdale a world-class shopping and dining destination in the United States. Offering everything from local, high-end boutiques to national retailers, Scottsdale’s outdoor promenades provide the ideal environment for shopping, dining and recreation. Downtown Scottsdale is one of the main attractions for both residents and visitors alike. Here you’ll find more than 90 eateries and 320 unique shops and retailers. You’ll also find a number of museums and theaters, which play host to wonderful events throughout the year.

Downtown Scottsdale has also become the heart of the city’s art scene, with Contemporary and Western Art, Theatre 4301, and a wide variety of outdoor sculptures set among the lush lawns and sparkling fountains of the Civic Center Mall. Throughout Old Town, residents will also find numerous shops selling quality Native American crafts, jewelry, and more.

Careers and Education

While the housing market might seem kind of skewed, the costs for everyday living are actually a bit lower than other areas. More specifically, they are 5 percent lower than the rest of the state and 8 percent below the national average. The average per capita income is double the state average, and there are plenty of job opportunities for those in high-powered careers like finance and IT. Despite having a slightly higher student-to-teacher ratio than the state or nation, the average test scores in Scottsdale schools are 15 percent higher than the national average.

Things To Do in Scottsdale, AZ

There’s always something going on in Scottsdale. You will certainly want to check out the local bands playing in Old Town, headline acts at Casino Arizona, spring training baseball games, Fourth of July fireworks at Salt River Fields, and the well-known Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction. Scottsdale ShadowsScottsdale Shadows located near Scottsdale and Camelback is a classic community.  While it’s not age restricted, historically, most people considered it to be.   However, over the last few years the community has been highly sought after by a broad range of demographic ranging from young professionals, to empty-nesters moving in from the suburbs, winter visitors and independent/active adults.

The location of Scottsdale Shadows is unlike any other located minutes from the most sought after location in Scottsdale – Scottsdale Fashion Square and Old Town Scottsdale.

The amenities and quality of construction are what you’d expect of any high rise in an urban area.  The high rise is constructed of concrete and steel.   Amenities are unbelievable –  guarded gate entrance, 9-hole executive golf course, 2 Tennis courts, 3 heated swimming pool, 2 spas, outdoor barbecues, separate men’s and women’s fitness centers, resident community cenFashion Squareter for playing your favorite games, library with computers and wireless internet access, art and ceramics studios, and a complete woodworking shop.  The grounds are kept immaculate and you can feel very secure with the front gate being manned with an actual person.  The fitness rooms were just renovated and the 3 swimming pools are heated in the winter.

The community offers a shuttle buses to take you shopping, casino , doctor atsppointments, sight seeing, a variety of activities you can join.  These are just a few of the amenities. No one under 16 is allowed to use any of the amenities without being accompanied by an adult, except for the fitness centers where you must be 18 unless accompanied by an adult.

The residences have great floor plans with plenty of closets for storage.  Most are 1,200 sq ft with 2 large bedrooms, but they do have some which are 850 sq ft, (1 bedroom-1bath) up to 2,095 sq ft (3 bedroom-3 bath) with extra large master bedrooms.   Many of the patios come with magnificent views.  Some of the newer buildings have washers and dryers inside the residence, otherwise there is a laundry room in all buildings.  Large storage on your floor in the laundry room.  Parking is just steps away in the underground parking lot.

Scottsdale Shadows has 7 Regimes or (HOA’s) in this community.  HOA fees include everything (air conditioning, heat, water, garbage pickup, use of all amenities) except what it cost to use the plugs and operate the air handler in your home, which averages between $15 – $30 a month.  Also included in your HOA benefits is unlimited golf.
