Living in Glendale

Living here also affords residents a wealth of luxuries and amenities just minutes from their front door.  A popular sports town, residents can enjoy everything from major league hockey to peewee baseball. In fact, Glendale is home to the National Hockey League’s Phoenix Coyotes, the National Football League’s Arizona Cardinals, and is the spring training home of Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Socks. The new University of Phoenix Stadium, which opened in 2006, has also played host to Super Bowl XLII and the 2011 BCS National Championship game.

Schools, Health and Transportation

There are a number of excellent school districts.  These include: Deer Valley Unified, Dysart Unified, Peoria Unified, Glendale Union High, Phoenix Union High, Tolleson Union High, Alhambra Elementary, Glendale Elementary, Pendergast Elementary, and Washington Elementary. The city is also home to some of Arizona’s finest higher education institutions, including Arizona State University West Campus, Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management and Midwestern University.

Healthcare and medical facilities are also available throughout and provide residents with high quality care. The Arrowhead Hospital and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center are located within the area, while Maryvale Hospital, Banner Estrella Medical Center and Phoenix Baptist Hospital are less than 10 miles away.

Another major draw to the area is the convenient location, only thirty minutes from many of the east Valley cities and a quick 10-minute ride to downtown Phoenix. Public transportation is also readily available and includes the Glendale Urban Shuttle and fixed-route bus service.  Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is approximately 15 to 20 miles away.

Parks and Recreation

Positioned in the heart of the Valley, numerous recreational opportunities are available for the residents.  In fact, many of the area’s subdivisions are within walking distance to parks, trails and other facilities. The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department also provides a wide range of educational, social and recreational activities throughout the year. Home to more than 100-miles of bike trails,  an annual event designed to encourage family bicycle fun is the Glendale Family Bike RideLake Pleasant Regional Park, one of the state’s most popular boating destinations, is also located in Glendale and offers everything from boating to camping, fishing to hiking, picnicking to stargazing and more. Annual passes can be purchased through the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department.  Numerous golf options are also available, including the Desert Mirage Golf Course, Glen Lakes Golf Course, Bellaire Golf Club, and the Arrowhead Country Club to name just a few.

Shopping and Dining

Shopping and dining options are as diverse as the residents that call this city home.  From the historic Catlin Court, containing beautiful bungalows that have been transformed into specialty shops, to modern malls such as the Arrowhead Towne Center and Westgate Entertainment District, all of your shopping needs can be fulfilled without ever leaving the city. The Arrowhead Towne Center, for example, is home to more than 170 retailers and eateries, as well as a movie theater. Located at 75th Avenue and Bell Road, this is one of the newer malls in the greater Phoenix area.  Dining options throughout the city are also plentiful and range from chain restaurants to small-town diners.
