About Maricopa

Maricopa, AZ

The city of Maricopa – not to be confused with Maricopa County – is one of the most beautiful desert cities in the state.

This well-planned community is renowned for offering its residents some of the finest amenities, the ambiance of a small-town, a quaint rural atmosphere, and ideal proximity to some of the larger cities of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Positioned in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, surrounded by mountain ranges that include the beautiful Sierra Estrella, Palo Verde, Saddleback Mountains and Haley Hills, the  landscape is nothing short of spectacular.  Incorporated in 2003 as the 88th city in Arizona, the 2000 census listed the population at 1,040 residents. During the following two years, the population expanded to more than 15,900 residents, earning it the title of one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.  Today, the population has more than doubled again. While this city has seen tremendous growth, it has not lost its identity, history, or sense of community. As the only city in the nation bordered by two Native American communities, it continues to honor and celebrate this cultural diversity and embraces the pioneering spirit that has been an integral part of this community for centuries.

Living in Maricopa

Quite simply, this is a wonderful place to raise a family, build a business, or just to embrace the warm winter climate, beautiful desert sunsets, and stunning rugged mountains.  Year after year, new residents continue to turn to the city with so much to offer, it is easy to see why!

Schools, Health and Transportation

Home to a number of great educational opportunities for individuals looking to relocate their families to the area. Maricopa Unified School District #20 is the provider of education for area students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade.  There are also a number of parochial and private schools that serve the area including the Graysmark Academy, Sequoia Pathway Academy and Legacy Traditional School. Those looking to continue their education will find several institutions of higher learned within the immediate area, however the closest campus is Central Arizona College in Coolidge.

Currently there are no hospitals located within the city limits, but there are talks of a hospital and college campus in the near future. The closest regional medical facilities include those in Chandler and Casa Grande.

The city of Maricopa operates a demand response transit program called COMET, which offers transportation services on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Reservations must be scheduled at least one business day in advance. Maricopa is also home to the only Amtrak station in Arizona.

Parks and Recreation

There is so much to see and do here.

The Firebird International Raceway, Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, and the Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino are just a few of the major draws to the community. In addition, area parks such as South Mountain Park, Sonoran Desert National Monument, and the Desert Breeze Railroad Park provide seemingly endless recreational pursuits.  The Pacana Park, home to more than 28-acres of facility, is another major attraction and is home to the popular Fishing Derby, Movies in the Park, Salsa Festival and Stagecoach Days.  The Community Services Department is also committed to providing services and amenities to enhance the quality of life of its residents. Each year, the department provides programs and services for those interested in sports, recreation and culture. From preschool story time at the library to peewee baseball and senior aerobics, there is something for residents of all ages and ability levels.

Shopping and Dining

While the majority of residents will turn to nearby Chandler for their shopping and dining needs, there are still a number of great options available.  From big-box retailers to small-town “mom and pop” stores, you’ll find all the conveniences of home.  Also home to a diverse selection of restaurants, ranging from chain establishments to quaint, hometown diners.
