Five Tips for Interior Design on a Budget

When we move house, we all want to put our own stamp on our new homes and really make them our own – unfortunately, a full-scale home makeover can be not just time-consuming, but expensive too. Luckily, there are plenty of little things we can do in order to give our homes a new look without spending too much in the process!

Here are just a few of the ways that you can refresh your new space on a tight budget.

Keep Other Moving Costs Low

There’s plenty of costs involved when moving, so it’s certainly worth trying to save on some of those in order to free up some extra cash to make your new house a home. One of the most daunting costs you encounter during the process is the cost of a moving company, so why not compare the companies on offer at MoversRun?

Every little saving could go a long way towards making your space your own when you get the chance!

Thrift, Thrift, Thrift

You know what they say: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Hit the local thrift stores and see if you can uncover any hidden gems that would look great in your home. Thrifting is much more affordable than buying new, and you never know what you might find: one painting bought at a North Carolina thrift store for $10 sold for over $37,000 in 2012!

Upcycle Where You Can

Take a look at the items you already have in your home and see if there’s any little improvements you could make to them rather than replacing them. Spray paint, wood varnish, fabric coverings, etc. are all fairly cheap to buy, yet they can make a huge difference to certain items.

A Little Goes A Long Way

There’s no need to purchase whole new furniture items to make a difference to the rooms in your home – just look at the way you’ve accessorized the items that you already have. For example, rather than buying new sofas, buy new pillows and blankets for the sofa you already have. Rather than buying a new bed, just buy a new comforter and paint the frame a new color if you can. A lot of the time, these little changes can have the same amount of impact as much bigger ones!

Play With Light

This is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to change not just the look of a room, but the feel of it, too! Play around with the light in your home by purchasing lamps, fairy lights, candles – these soft lighting changes with really give your home a warm, cozy feel and are much more pleasing than bright ceiling lights.

You can even play around with the natural light in your home by strategically placing mirrors in certain areas. If you do this effectively, it can even give the room the feeling of being bigger or more spacious!
